The group really liked the book. Most felt the book was well written with great character development. So much of the book was relevant to events today. It is set at the beginning of WWI and the Spanish Flu Pandemic. Later the setting is in Cairo during a convention meeting of Churchill, T.E. Lawrence and Gertrude Bell. This is a pivotal point in history when the British map out what the middle east will look like. Most of us did not know who Gertrude Bell was, but she was an extremely important figure. It is said she was the Uncrowned Queen of Iraq". See this NPR post for more information. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5552563
